1. Shout Outs Galore

      written by Ray Benefield
Morning peepz. What's our countdown at for Reach? Like 26 days right? Less than 4 weeks and we can all rejoice. Today is a day for some very worthy shout outs. Tomorrow is Forge Lesson 9, I may be covering either Perspective Variance, Screen Real Estate, or Spawn Perspectives... who knows. And Friday I'll preview one of my crazy sketchup ideas. It may be a video post if I'm feeling up to it. Anyways, first shout out goes to the guys over at Halo Endurance...

      Donations

So first shout out goes to a group of guys doing a Halo marathon for charity. These guys take the time to prove that you don't have to have money to give directly to charity. Sometimes you just gotta have a creative mind. These guys decided that "Hey, if we play Halo for hours upon end maybe that will encourage you to donate to a great charity." Well get this. It worked. They have currently raised $350+ out of a $1000 goal just by streaming themselves playing all 4 Halo campaigns. Not bad, eh? I highly encourage all of you to atleast head over there and hang out with myself and all the other spectators. You can chat, criticize their Halo skills (or lack there of), or even request that they do a little dance in the webcam. And then if your pocket can handle it, give a dollar or two. For every dollar you donate you get put into a raffle for a signed RvB Reconstruction DVD or a 4000 MS point card. So who knows... it may pay you back. And if I can scrap up some money with my unemployed ass, then you guys can too. :P

      Advertisers of RP

So while chilling with the Halo Endurance guys they have felt the burning need and desire to help advertise this blog. Who knows, some of you reading this now may have found this place because of them. If so I welcome all of you. So a special thanks to those guys as they clearly see this as worth the time to advertise while they Halo it up. Also some of you may know Gunnergrunt or Flashpoint. Both happen to be pretty regular readers and they happen to be the first ones to start spreading the word at Forgehub on a thread where Brooks has asked for Forge tips for Reach. If you have an FH account feel free to support the site and encourage people to show up. Thank you very much Gunnergrunt and Flashpoint for the great support. Feel free to follow their example. ;) For all of you that are new here one of the main features of the site are my Forge Lessons. Basically every other day I cover a new technique/concept in level design theory that can help improve your maps. If you are preparing to Forge in Halo I highly recommend that you read, comment, and ask questions if you have any. And if you would really like some help we can hook up on XBL and run through some of my lessons with you in person.

      A place to chill

So while I think it would be awesome for you to chill out here every second that you possibly can. I understand if you get kind of bored since this place doesn't have any forums to chill at. So let me give you my opinions of places you may enjoy.
Forgehub is the biggest and first of the forge communities. I helped raised FH from it's birth while it was still on wordpress in September - October of '07... and now it is a massive vBulletin forum with 45K+ members. Personally the site is a little big for me and hard to have a family community feel. However they have some great featured maps and a MASSIVE map repository. Also their staff are pretty damn cool guys and they happen to be affiliated with Bungie themselves... not bad eh?

XForgery is your secondary option. While not nearly as big as Forgehub, XForgery is over a thousand members strong with the most friendly community that I know amongst all of the forge sites. If you ask me, I prefer XF over the rest... but don't tell anyone ;). They also have some crazy features like a map post generator, a map search, and a unique map thread setup that shows you what type of map it is a full review of the map and the chance to nominate it for feature. The best thing about XF is that everything is run by the community. Everyone can be a colored member as color does not designate status it designates personality at XF. Features are chosen by the community, maps are reviewed by the community, fun times are had every weekend with the community. If you like a group where everyone knows everyone and everyone takes care of everyone and has a blast, check out XF.

Now the final two I'm going to batch together since this post is quite longer than all of my other ones. The Custom Experience and The Guardianz are two small yet very cozy groups. I see potential in the both of them. TCE has vBulletin while TG does not, however don't let that discourage you from TG. What TG lacks in features, they make up for in pure perserverance and dedication to their goal of playtesting and getting stuff into MM in Reach. TCE is just a fun place to hang with some of my great friends and since they sport the new vB 4.0 it also has some nice little features that FH and XF just don't have with their 3.8 versions.

      Spread the word

So I apologize for the longer post today peepz. I promise to shrink them back down so you aren't reading a wall of text all of the time. Anyways, I'm out for now. Share Reaching Perfection with your friends, the community you hang out at, the people that watch you dancing, and anyone else that you can think of. If everyone gets into perfecting their level design skills there will be much more quality in all of the maps and gametypes that come out in Reach. This can only help them. Also remember there are retweet and facebook share buttons at the top of each post. Use them wisely. Well if you want to chill, I'll be hanging out at Halo Endurance most of the day. See you guys there. And see you tomorrow with Forge Lesson #9.

QUICK EDIT: Also you guys take the time to check out Spaceman's youtube as he has decided to start advertising my blog as well.
